The imported quote usually looks striking — either much cheaper or much more premium — and the decision feels like it should be simple.
It is not, because the two quotes are not describing the same thing. One is an ex-works price for a crate that has not yet left another country. The other is a machine that arrives, gets installed, and has a service engineer within driving distance. Comparing them on price alone is the single most common way buyers in this category lose money — not on the purchase, but over the three to five years that follow.
The quoted price is not the landed price
An imported machine quote is a starting figure. Between that number and a working machine on your site sit several more: ocean or air freight, insurance, customs duty and clearing charges, inland transport from the port, and the cost of bringing in — or flying in — someone who knows how to commission the machine. Total cost of ownership for a car wash machine is not the purchase price plus electricity. Over a normal operating life, these are the lines that decide whether the machine was a good buy:

Downtime is the line that decides it
Everything above eventually collapses into one question: when the machine stops, how long is it stopped? A wash bay that is down is not merely idle, it is actively losing the customers who drove in and turned around, and those customers are the ones you spent money acquiring.

And what is the typical time from a part being identified to that part being in my hands? The answers are more predictive of your five-year cost than any line on either quotation.
Where an imported machine can still be the right answer
This is not an argument that imported equipment is always wrong. If a supplier has a genuine, established Indian service organisation — engineers on the ground, a spares depot in the country, other machines running locally that you can visit — then most of the disadvantages above shrink considerably. Common questions
Are Chinese car wash machines cheaper?
The quoted machine price often is. The landed price frequently is not, once freight, insurance, duty, clearing and inland transport are added, and the total cost of ownership depends far more on spares lead time and service response than on either number. Compare landed, installed figures — never a foreign ex-works price against an Indian delivered price.
Is an India-made machine lower quality?
Origin is not a specification. Judge the machine on what it does: wash pressure, cycle time, water and power per wash, operator count, civil requirements and build.
